I've been taking it sporadically; the bottle I just purchased to replace my first contains tablets of 3mg. I took one at ~11:00 p.m. last night, fell asleep around midnight, and slept till about 8, though I did get up 3 times to go to the loo.
If I'm under a lot of specific stress, though (not just general vague anxiety), it doesn't seem as effective.

Poor Marie.
BTW, I don't think half is gonna cut it. Unfortunately I bought capsules, so cutting it in half (without losing the powder) was a bit of a trick, but I did finally manage. I found myself yawning on the couch about a half hour later and at that point decided to call it a night, but it still took a while to fall to sleep. Even then I had a restless night; tossing and turning and waking up at various points. I must say I had some fairly vivid imagery pop into my head during that twilight period before one falls asleep. I use to get that a lot back in my twenties and really enjoyed it. I would see all kinds of stuff; surreal geometic shapes, faces of people I'd never met, 3-D landscapes. I would also hear music, sometimes it was classical, other times it was monks singing -- that was always a nice way to drift off.
Man, I miss those days. I guess growing up finally put a stranglehold on that part of my brains creative outlet, so getting it back in part last night was like seeing an old friend.
Anyway, I think I'll try taking the whole thing tonight. I'm fairly tall with a quick metabolism, so even a headache requires three extra strength Tylenol or Advil to fix.

I've found that listening to Jason Isaacs' voice is really soooooooooothing.
Dreamy, really quite dreamy. (Maybe he should be McDreamy on 'Grey's Anatomy'. )
Either 'Peter Pan' or sometimes 'The Patriot' will make me nod off.
Can't say as I haven't tried a sleep aid, but when you need to get up uber-early in the morning, they can make you feel foggy if you didn't get the sleep you needed, or wanted.
