Rio de Janeiro Intl. Film Fest on Sept. 25

Post by Chari910 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:11 pm

Another pic with international potential, "Good," will be the main attraction of the fest's Closing Gala on Oct. 8, a day before the prize ceremony. Brazilian helmer Vicente Amorim directed the English-language, U.K.-German production. Star Viggo Mortensen will attend.

We do have a few members from Brazil. Hope they can catch it.

I'm not in Rio, SLW. Unfortunately it won't be possible for me to go to the film festival, but I do hope to catch it on TV.

Thanks anyway, Char!

We have this little movie theater in Corpus that shows independent films.
I'm holding out in hopes that 'GOOD' will be playing. *crossedfingersandtoes*

An article from RIO

Translated from Portuguese

A GOOD MAN | Vicente Amorim
Son of Minister of Foreign Affairs launches movie international

Rio - With two full length movies and a short in baggage, the Brazilian filmmaker Vicente Amorim, son of Minister of External Relations Celso Amorim, has just take off in international cinema. 'A Good Man', his new movie (and the first international production), has world premiere this month at the Toronto Film Festival and arrives in Brazil to wind up the Festival of Rio, on 9 October.

With a cast of the first line, as Jason Isaacs (Lucius, from 'Harry Potter'), Jodie Whittaker (Jessie to be in 'Venus') and praised Viggo Mortensen (the Aragorn in "Lord of the Rings'), the weft narrates the life of a professor of literature who wrote a book about euthanasia and he finds himself involved with the Nazi regime. The story is happening in Germany of 30 years, but it was round in Hungary. "Budapest looks like the Berlin of that time, today, more than itself," said Amorim.

The experience served to desmitificar the idea that working with cinema abroad is easier. "Shoot more money is always better because it brings a comfort to most. But as in any other production, I had moments of tightness, of suffocation and run. Furthermore, the level of technical professionals from outside is well balanced with here, "says the filmmaker.

Success all in the first exhibition, 'Good', original title in English, pleased to international criticism. But the filmmaker, who has also proved his abilities as an author in 'The Way of the Clouds', with Wagner Moura and Claudia Abreu took a certain nervousness when the issue is the Rio de Janeiro.

"I am more tense to show the film here. After all, I am Rio, lived here my friends, my family and all the people I know. But I am happy. It is a good anxiety, "complete Vicente Amorim.

A Winning Partnership

The climate between Vicente Amorim and Viggo Mortensen could not have been better. The director does not tire of weaving praise for the star who, according to the opinion of specialists in international cinema, seems to be that great.

"In addition to excellent actor, one of the best of his generation, in my opinion, Viggo is an extreme dedication. He gets involved and helps the film as a whole. Since I started the long, I spoke a lot with him. We talk about aesthetics, script, characters, in short, everything, "exalts. By the time he devoted himself to debut. During the exhibition in Toronto, has been spreading throughout the long corner of Brazil.
