Scars, and Michael Caffee

Post by malfoygrandma » Sat Nov 24, 2007 9:15 am

I am still impressed with Jason on the SCARS video, and have been watching the changes he has incorporated into his portrayal of Michael Caffee on Brotherhood. It seems to me he is making really great use of the knowledge and background assimilated from the true to life character. Has anyone else noticed this? It is absolutely superior!

Jason's role as Chris is one of the best in his career, IMO. It's equal parts terrifying, but also a heartbreaking look into the impact that violence has in peoples lives. As an audience, Chris provides us with a unique insight. Even now, he still has to deal with both the emotional and psychological ramifications of the life he left behind all those years ago.

I think Leo Regan should be proud. It's not an easy story, and some people may question the sympathetic viewpoint, but it's still a courageous tale of one man's journey back to redemption.

As for Michael, I see subtle differences in his character. Chris seems to be as much a victim himself and is always completely racked with guilt. Michael is the polar opposite in that respect. He can always justify what he does given his own moral compass.

There doesn't appear to be nearly as much internalization with Michael.

Gillian I think Micheal does have an interesting moral compas though. If he thinks a person did not live up to an agreement (not pay the proper amout owed to some mob boss for instance) - well that person is fair game to be snuffed out without remorse. However, if Micheal thinks the person is an "inocent" like the truck driver or the wife of the hit man's target - then I think Michael does feel real guilt and some amount of remorse about what he is involved in. I do like the character in that he is very complex.

I am super-sorry for the old-thread rehashing but I am now officially desperate to see this.

And I'm not sure if this is an appropriate question, but how would an Australian, with a disposable income instead of children, go about procuring a copy? I noticed his picture http://www.kudosproductions.co.uk/ on the production company's website and am considering e-mailing them, but any guidance would be appreciated.

I can easily hook you up with a very nice JI fan in OZ, Carole.
Carole has one of the biggest library of JI's work/interviews etc. and she also has a heart of gold. If you contact her, I'm sure she will help you.

She is running this LiveJournal Community.

let me warn you ladies, "Scars" is very intense, and the first time I
saw it, it was very scary...Jason's performance is excellent, but you
won't recognize a nice man....Chris is a violent man, mentally
unstable, and Mr Jason, well, while I was watching it, I wasn't seeing
Jason, I was watching "Chris"...intense and disturbing....
