Second Episode - SPOILERS

Post by laurielove » Mon Jun 06, 2011 4:15 pm

Oh YES!

That's the way to do it.

Everything just fell into place tonight (and I don't just mean the plot revelations). It was beautifully done. Beautiful. And any reservations I had last night (and I did have some) vanished.

Very, very satisfying. It generated great empathy with the characters and brought out the humanity and detailed wit of the books in a succinct but still very engaging way. I confess, I wasn't getting that last night, but it all just gelled tonight.

Mr I was even more splendid. Guh, yes. There were some very funny moments, and the moments of clichés were done tonight in such a way that made them simply amusing and touching. They were made a feature of, I suppose, through repetition, which brought a real smile.

Again, the scenes with his daughter (fewer unfortunately) were outstanding. The music was far less intrusive and the whole thing simply seemed less self-conscious.

Great, really great. It was a detective story - moreso than the book, but it was a very very fine detective story. There was one big change at the end which will raise some eyebrows, but ... never mind.

Fingers crossed - this deserves great reviews but not sure if it will get them for the second ep.

Loved it! Loved It! Loved it! So impressed by the way everything resolved, I loved the way he said "SIT DOWN" to the Nun Sister [very Lucius I thought] and there was even some Michael in there too ["Daddy broke a mans arm"] That little Marlee is so sweet and I just love that name, I am going to suggest it to my sister if she has another little girl.

I hope everyone gets to see it soon you will not be disappointed.

Ha! I thought exactly that when he shouted, 'SIT DOWN!' - Lucius! It was remarkably ... sibilant.

Did you love the end laurielove? I thought it portrayed a man who is absolutely tortured even in the most peaceful and serene [or at least what should have been] situation.

Oh yes. Very moving and poignant. He played it beautifully. Lots of subtlety which he doesn't often get to explore, and which he brought out perfectly.

Thanks Laurie (and Char). I must get round to doing my review.

I liked the change at the end - and think it was the right decision - I think Atkinson would have done that if she'd known that she was going to write more about Brodie when she 'finished' Case Histories.

And the 'SIT DOWN' scene was wonderful (so masterful... sigh...)

thanx Char :hug wonderful screen caps

the look on his face in the second pic makes me smile
(talking to Binky's great nephew, like he wants to smack him)

I must admit, I have to watch the ep a few times, just to understand the dialogue...

FYI, headphones work for me LOL

with Jackson, he is so tortured, it's probably the one case in his life that he hasnt solved (death of his sister)
Being a kid, and so many years ago, I don't think he will. That was the one point in the 4 books I was
disappointed with. Not being able to solve the death of his sister. But I now understand that is was
makes/drives Jackson Brodie...

Luved the scenes with 'Marlee' and the way she tells her Mum EVERYTHING (after Dad tells her not to)
