With John C. Breckinridge (Jason Isaacs):

Is that a good Southern American accent?
He's at the end of this too:

Rats! No sound for me. Well, he looks good. That's how I'm wearing my hair these days, too!

Re: Scene from the movie
Well there is not just ONE southern accent. Folks from the south can tell what state you are from - from your accent - so they are all different (just as Yankees such as myself can tell if you are from Boston or Providence.) Remember most of the Generals that fought in the Confederate Army came from the Union Army - many of them came from it's academy. That has a way of homogenizing accents (at least from my military experience.)
I could understand him clearly - and I felt that the accent was generally good upper class Southern.
I really hope I get to see this movie!

And today, there was sound. I'm a Northerner. Can't tell one Southern accent from another.

Breckinridge was from Kentucky. Being tone-deaf, I can't tell, just recognized that little bit of southern drawl.
