Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
Not sure that I agree that Lorca behaves like Kirk. Kirk had the female of the week. Lorca had relationships. Obviously more than one night stands. Still not right to have a relationship with a subordinate - so i’m not going to defend his behavior - or that of the admiral. But he does not appear to be chasing the young females - ala Kirk.

Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
I kind of like the theory of the mirror universe Lorca. But that begs the question - where is our Lorca? We can sense a mirror universe with that scene of Lt Stamus imagine remaining on the mirror after Stamus leaves. Or was that simple the Lt high on spores? Such an interesting story- i’m Loving it!

Hope we find out more in tonight's ep.

Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
Kind of a bummer to see Capt. Lorca killed so many times. What was it - like 53 times? We knew this was not your original ST Harry Mudd but wow - what a scum bag.
Happy to say this week I did not get any glitches, stops or skips! Was worried after last week.
I need to watch After Trek and Talking Dead tonight.

Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
If it's one thing I loathe, it's the Groundhog's Day premise. Thank heaven, we came into it in the mid-50s iteration. I agree, Marie, this HFM is despicable. The original was merely annoying.
And. Shape of things to come: Lorca dying. Well. I'll simply cancel Access at that time (I should be finished watching all The Good Fight eps. by then) and renew in "early 2018." So there, CBS!

Just came across this NY Times review of ep. 7:

And another from IndieWire:

Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
Another one here not keen on the "Groundhog Day in Space" theme - especially when reminded that it has already been done before in ST.
I love to think of Stella as Mudd's wife who constantly nags him in the future ST TOS - he certainly deserves her.

Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
I enjoyed the time loops. Always have been a fan of the do it till you get it right in Sci Fi!
The episode was filled with some great (if not dark) comedy.
The detail put into the costumes (the Andorian space suit) and the special effects creatures - (the space whale) were fantastic!

Ep. 9:
So much for Klingon ship's computer sensors not detecting the lit and beeping sensors that Michael and Ash set.
Poor Stamets. That is a scientist's dedication.
And, yes, Marie and Servalan, the admiral is indeed still alive.
January 7 can't come soon enough.

I agree about the noisy beeps. Set them on silent, you idiots!
So now they are Lost In Space...
(anyone remember that programme?)

Yes I remember Lost in Space Danger Will Robinson!
Guess I was not the only one that thought - Damn that spy thing gizmo is kind of loud! That won't give away our position now will it?

Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
Ahh. Lost in Space. I loved the first year . . . when storylines revolved around the immediate family (lead by Guy Williams of TV Zorro fame) instead of the last two years of horrible Dr. Smith, the robot, and young Will.
I'm sure that Capt. Lorca et al. will figure it all out . . . until the season finale cliffhanger.

Re: Star Trek Discovery discussion (Spoilers)
Okay. Despite my saying that I loathe groundhogs day themes, I'm glad this one made third place on the list of time-loop TV eps. It even beat out TNG's Cause and Effect (that damn card game ).

Ep. 10: Where to begin?
Well. It's looking as though the fan theory of Ash being Voq could be correct. Surgery to remove portions of his spine, femur, etc., to make him closer to human size fits.
Captain Tilly was a hoot: "What the he-heck . . .hell?"
Loved the look on Lorca's face after he spoke with a Scottish accent. I hope they bought that.
Did they really kill off the doctor???? I'm hoping, like vampires, he just gets up, shakes his head, and gets on with helping his lover. Poor Stametts is having a very rough time.
