Unclear on the Concept: BP's response
BP's response to this debacle in the Gulf (well, that used to be in the Gulf ) just gets better and better. On Sunday, they ran a full-page ad in the Washington Post (because that's the best use of anyone's money right now) with an enormous photo of a boat laying boom on the surface of pristine water, with copy that read, in part, "The Gulf oil spill is a tragedy that never should have happened [oh really?]. And while we were deeply disappointed [aaaw they were disappointed] that the recent "top kill" operation was unsuccessful [it was unsuccessful, not 'we royally fucked it up']. . . If wildlife is affected, rescue stations have been set up to take care of them [sic]."
Yeah. IF. I guess Tony Hayward is probably being protected from any exposure to media right now, 'cause they ain't no IF in the photos I'VE been seeing. And I know this is a completely pointless exercise, but I have to say, this response from Stephen Colbert made me laugh like a drain:

Yeah, it's amazing that the media aren't embarrassed by their own silliness.
The important thing in this debacle is how angry the president looks??????
I'm sure the brown pelicans are ineffectually flapping their gunge-laden wings and peering out through murky, stinging eyes and saying to one another, "if only President Obama would just LOOK ANGRIER!!"

What is unfortunate is, it might work... People tend to mix everything up. As if any of this was President Obama's fault! It's not something that can be solved with a phone call from the Prez! It's not a political crisis, it's an environmental one, and nature cannot be so easily controlled. The right-wing talking heads have to find something to blame him for with everything that happens, so they can sweep the November elections.
The more I see the world, the less I'm satisfied with it... I'm just a grumpy old maid.
