Michael's claddagh ring

Post by Hilary the Touched » Mon Dec 03, 2007 10:54 am

Kim's been pondering this, but it suddenly occurred to me to wonder about Michael's ring. I participated in the Scottish Walk in Alexandria, VA, this weekend, in support of historical site Gadsby's Tavern, and there were a lot of claddaghs in evidence.
Here's what I just thought of: I often see them used as wedding rings. Their entire design is about public declaration of emotional state. They are strongly identified, of course, with Irish culture, but if all you wanted was to let people know you were of Irish extraction, plenty of other cues would suffice.
So what I'm getting at is, I understand them to be primarily love tokens, especially for men. Can you honestly imagine a man buying one for himself to subtly reveal to Irish women that he's available?? (Maybe to Irish men, but that's a post for a different TV series.) Why did Michael have one to begin with? Was it a gift from a woman of the Seven Missing Years??

good questions Hils....If you notice, Kath has one, too.
Don't know if she had one before she became involved with Michael,
or not...Michael wears his on his right hand, and when he was slapping Moe, I noticed the heart was still pointing toward him...
I would love to think he got the ring during the 7 years he was
missing...
I do know a man who wears his as a wedding ring....

from what I have seen of the show I know that the family is irish! and this is an irish wedding ring...

I own one and the explination that was given to me is.... if the point of the heart is toward you ... your heart belongs to someone. if the point of the heart is out it mean that you are looking for the one you love

so we just need to see if he wears it with the heart toward him or away from him

Red, before he took up with Kath, the heart was facing away from him..
Since he's been with Kath, the heart is facing towards him...
In the season finale, looks like the heart is still facing him...from what I can see of it, his hand is moving fast...

What is weird, is that he wears it on his right hand, NOT his left...LOL
Kath also has one, she is wearing it the day she goes to the clinic...the heart is facing in towards her...

Being of German/Italian descent I had never heard of a claddagh ring before. This is very interesting and very sweet. I had noticed the ring on his hand and next time I watch the show I'll make further note of it.
Thanks for the info.

I'm thinking it has to do with the the 'Brotherhood of Union Laborers', cuz, when Freddie Cork's son jumped off that bridge in Season 1, he left his claddagh on the bridge, like a calling card.

Wondering if Marty,Moe, Freddie, and Silent John all have one, as well.
But, what about Decco?
They also have a Celtic Cross tattoo on their backs, Decco, and Michael, I mean. (I'm partial to Michael's, tho'. For obvious reasons, of course. :lol)
I have a claddagh ring. Bought it after Season two ended. The heart doesn't have the crown on top, but it opens up like a little locket. :D
Wanting to find a Celtic knot ring, to wear on my left middle finger. (As you can see, I support Michael 100%. :D )
My prayers for the show, that this season goes as planned. (fingers crossed. NTS: Buy St. Michael vigil candle at La Fey Curio)

Freddie's son committed suicide, because of the stress of being gay...
he left the ring, because that ring symbolizes when a person is in/not
in a relationship...all depends which way the ring is worn on the finger...

Freddie did NOT know his son was gay, and his son knew his father
would not approve....Evidently, his son was having problems
with depression...

Unfortunately, Freddie blamed his son's partner

I have a Celtic Cross tattoo, and I am not Irish...
I like the design....

Cool! I want to get one, but I'm not too fond of needles aaa.gif , especially ones with ink. I prefer the temps. That way, if you change your mind, they can be removed with just baby oil, or alcohol.

I wonder how long Jason has to sit in the chair for that Celtic cross. :?:
I'd love to have a triquetra/ Celtic triangle. (That symbol on the Book of Shadows on 'Charmed'.) [/b]

I do believe the tatts that Mr Jason wears in BH are DECALS....

just peeled and applied to his skin....then the edges are blended...
In the first season they looked great....

My fav Michael Caffee Tattoo is the rose and dagger on the left
side of his chest...

Mr Blake said that Ethan Embry (Declan) tattoos are all REAL..
"EE Loves his Ink".....
one on his fore arm is a drawing his daughter made...

I love the Celtic Cross on Michael's back.

Personally, I like tattoos...if they are not excessive.

Me too, Angel. Some people in Corpus look like walking tapestries. I almost expect them to start sporting hang tags/grafitti as well.
If it's done in moderation, it looks like art. Overdone.....and it's just a mess. :???: ~marilaine
P.S. I love Michael's Celtic Cross tattoo, also. Esp. when it's a close-up shot of Jason. :D
