Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
As Char stated, wonderful to see Jason in HD, on a larger screen
for those who saw the original broadcasted in the UK/have the region 2 DVD, did anyone notice a bit of
editing??? nothing grand scale, but some scenes were shortened and parts of scenes
totally edited out....
maybe a total of between 5 and 7 minutes...lets all buy the DVD LOL

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
Unless it shows on BBC-Amer most shows coming from England are edited. I remember the days when they
filmed two versions of a movie. One for the States and the other for overseas. Mostly that's gone with but
still a bit here and there.

Wow, Kim! I didn't notice that much. I do know that they, rightfully so, edited out a couple of his flashbacks that I thought were overly done and interrupted the flow of the present-day storylines. But beyond that, what else?? The love scenes, maybe?

They definitely cut out the sexual abuse scene with Sylvia and her dad. Hope all the viewers 'get' it.
Also the sex scene in Brodie's office, a little shorter and less bouncing? LOL
I love all the scenes with Marlee. Jason was so tender and natural. I now wish Britten had a small daughter in addition to the teenage boy.

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
Marie, when Jackson goes out into the garden, before going out into the alley, he stops and the camera moves around him, checking out the back
of the house...When he takes his daughter to the crime scene in the office, remember the stain on the rug? That was also cut out from the conversation
with the ex wife when he brought the daughter home...As Char stated, less bouncing, and the scene where Jackson runs out into the night, shirtless, is
also cut a bit...little things here and there...indeed some of the flashback scenes where shortened, and the abuse scene Char spoke of....I also think the
scene of Brodie out of the shower was edited...jeese, at least he had on his pants...LOL
It did seem to get a bit choppy, I think because of the few moments edited here and there...there were more scenes of the local
environment (Edinburgh), edited out as well...
I remember watching the first 2 eps, they were like 58, 57 minutes long...the program last night did not start right away, and it was over by 10:47...
I also have the DVD, so I've watched a few more times than those here in the US

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
I expect the major cuts were for the "delicate American psyche" and "puritanical nature."
The rest were for whittling the length down to fit a 2-hour format. This is the first time in a long time that I can remember Masterpiece Theatre or Mystery being anything but a 90-minute length. So, thank heavens they didn't cut out an additional half-hour.

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
and thanx to the video made by Thunder
another edited scene: the entire scene where Jackson and Marlee find Binkie's black cat, out under a car..
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/cas ... saacs.html
I may have posted these before (I think they can only be viewed in the US)...
can someone outside US try the pbs link and let us know if it works?? THANKS

Great! Thanks Kim.
This is the video from PBS that was only available to US

Short but sweet.

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
thanx Char, maybe those outside the US can view the PBS site
OK, call me crzy for being so detailed, but I've gone back and checked the episode run times from the original airing
(yes, I wrote them down)...
Episode 1 ran 58 minutes
Episode 2 ran 58 minutes
Episode 3 ran 59 minutes
Episode 4 ran 58 minutes
Episode 5 ran 58 minutes
Episode 6 ran 59 minutes
So the PBS, here in the US, is still showing the same amount of ad time as a regular network. They run their own ads for donations.

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
We can view the site, but not the videos (at least that goes for me (Norway)). Thanks, Char. I think that's part of the interview from the DVD (Region2)
Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
And they must have had Alan Cumming's intro. I had always assumed that ads for PBS's own programming was filler. Now that I know they edit to fit it in, I wonder how much of Lewis, etc I am missing?kjshd05 wrote: Episode 1 ran 58 minutes

The silver lining; they don't seem to have edited out so much as to make it unintelligible, and now I can use this information to persuade others to buy the dvds

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
My complaint is that it shows too late : I have to get to bed early, darnit! I push 'til 10:30, but it's the latest I can go! So I miss a whole 30 minutes, ie, the dénouement...
I'll buy the DVDs anyway.
Now if America can fall in love with him, it'll bide well for Awake...

Re: Case Histories Coming To PBS this October
thanx to a Google alert, the music from the first 3 eps...dont know how accurate this is...
http://tellyspotting.org/2011/10/25/the ... histories/
I think we had the music listings when it ran in the UK as well
the last song at the end of Episode 4 keeps turning in my head....
