Jason's new project - La conjura de El Escorial

A fencing Jason Isaacs--in tights, no less!! Sorry--a historical drama concerning machinations and maneuverings in the court of Spain's Philip II, erstwhile husband to England's Queen Mary Tudor and dispatcher of the ill-fated Armada. Velvet and ruffed collars. Unfortunately, it appeared only sporadically in theatres, and is tough to find even on DVD.

Nothing mentioned outside of Spain...mmmm....
Oh the difficulties of being a JI fan. If I have to go to Spain to see this movie I will be pissed .... or will I? Hmmmm sounds like a good excuse to see some of Spain - too bad I would only recognize every 100th word..............

Love the way he looks in that costume. Must take an hour to get into all that stuff. Beard's, well, great. Especially the close-up "32 of 49." Somebody crop that headshot for us. Pleeeeeease?

And, best of all . . .

Boots!! Long, black leather boots!!

Boots!! Long, black leather boots!!
Boy, I'll say!! And his real hair!

I do have some qualms about the costumes, though--aesthetic complaints, really, since I don't have any sort of actual knowledge about 'em, but I've got issues with the way JI's tunic collar is fitting. It's a very stiff cylinder of fabric, and leaving it open to expose the finer fabric of his shirt just makes him look--well, like a turtle or something.
And I think Julia Ormond's ruff should be supported on a similar undercollar, and tipped up slightly in the back of her head. I suspect that'd only work if her hair is worn up, but as is, her collar looks like a platter on which her head is resting, a little like Robin Williams in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

The dress is pretty, but Julia looks terribly uncomfortable. I don't know if it's too tight or what, but she keeps grasping her mid-section like she's in pain or can't breathe.

Jason looks great. I especially like the added growth extending in a thin line from his jaw to the sideburns. And the thigh high leather boots is teh sex. The only thing bothering me is the collar. As Hil says, it creates the illusion that his neck is much shorter than it is, although it may not be apparent on film.

By the way, there's more photos at Wireimage.

Thanks so much Hil. I totally missed this thread today until I found the pic on Wireimage then rushing to tell you guys..and you're already several steps ahead of me. :D

Julia's costume looks *cough* cheap *cough*..SORRY- I just saw Elizabeth, the Golden Age last weekend. And I do know this Escorial thing doesn't have millions $$ to spend on costumes.

I agree with what Hil said about Jason's collar. Love his hair/beard/pants/boots(with heels?) though.

I'm gonna hazard a guess here and suggest that maybe they haven't finished her corsets yet. The gown doesn't look like it fits too precisely? and maybe it's not fastened up the back or tightened all the way, and she's conscious of the possibility of it riding up or something without the corsets.
I didn't think she looked uncomfortable, more like . . . a little insecure. Like she was trying to immobilize the bodice of the gown.
Something about these shots just suggests "early days" to me.

I must say, La Conjura is looking frightfully good. There's lots of reference to the intrigue and scandal that we all know is central to the story. I just hope it gets a broader release than what was initially said.

Thanks for the clip and pictures, Char!
