This is a TV series about a police officer after a fatal car crash killed either his son or his wife. He lives in two realities. One where his son survived the accident, and one where his wife survived. He doesn't know which is the real one, and he doesn't want to know. It aired on NBC, and was cancelled after one season.

Did you do the little vote at the end of the review?

Will you watch the show:
Absolutely - 86.54%
Maybe - 11.87%
No - 1.59%

He did bring up the fact that that timeslot has not had good luck with two other NBC dramas. Let's hope Awake breaks that chain.

This is the first review I've seen which talked about more than the pilot episode (which I already knew was fantastic!!) March 1st can't come soon enough!

I love reading the comments, it's fun to see people guessing.

Those extra reviews are an excellent idea. In one of the entertainment blogs from the LA Times this week, the guy said (he was discussing Smash specifically and its 3rd episode ratings) that he thought that first 3 episodes were the most important. They were the episodes that introduced, hooked, and then added or lost viewers. So if they can hook people through the 4th episode then, in theory, it should have a strong chance against the Mentalist (what's in the ABC slot again?) :D ...but then there will be that long summer hiatus :bag: where they could potentially lose people to new fall shows. (Maybe they'll do reruns to keep it in people's minds over the summer?)

I guess we have to show the bad reviews with the good:

Opinion: ‘Awake’ fails to keep viewer interest

The premise feels so full of story that there is little room for anything else. So it is quite surprising that a boring crime procedural takes up time in the very first episode.
.
.
.
But the first episode’s final act, in which Michael goes into hero mode and solves both crimes through his extraordinary detective work, is utterly tacked on. It is as if the show’s producers felt a high-concept drama had too much talking and not enough action, no matter how little the latter fits in with the rest of the plot.

The nadir of the first episode is when one of the criminals initially runs away from Michael and his partner before deciding to circle around and attempt to kill Michael from behind with a gun. Michael’s partner then shoots him because the criminal did not understand two-against-one. Why would the criminal return to try to kill a police officer? It makes no sense and only provides a handy wrap-up for an episode that had to run through two criminal cases in a hurry.

The reviewer doesn't let up.

Well, to quote Decco on Brotherhood:

"That's the exception that proves the rule."

Awaits patiently for someone with a better memory to confirm who said it. Was it actually Ralph? Image

Back to good reviews:

'Awake': New NBC drama is an eye-opener

So, don't look now, but ratings-challenged NBC is in serious danger of having a couple of quality hit shows on its hands. "Smash," the musical drama that premiered the Monday after the Super Bowl, seems to be living up to its name, wowing viewers and critics. Now here comes "Awake."

Double post. Review from the New York Post. It has a nice picture (new to me) of Michael/Jason.

Hard to stay ‘Awake’

I'll say it's excellent!

Awake could prove to be one of the most rewarding shows this season.

To avoid a double post . . . again . . . I'm tagging these onto my previous one.

From Canada.com, great picture, and the spelling error is theirs not mine:

Isaac's six-year-old daughter summed it up succinctly, Gordon noted, while explaining it to a playmate. "He's a guy who goes to sleep, wakes up, and he's with his wife," Isaacs recalled his daughter telling her friend. "He goes to sleep, wakes up, and he's with his son. "He's a cop who sees clues and details that cross over from one world to the next, and he uses that insight to solve crimes." See? So simple, even a six-year-old can explain it.

Metacritic gives it a 71 out of 100 score:

Well, how difficult can it be to understand the consept? It think they are making too much of it just to have some negative things to say...

Another review: I like how they describe JI:
"Awake" also benefits enormously from the talent of Isaacs, who has been outstanding in everything from PBS "Case Histories" to the "Harry Potter" movies (as evil Lucius Malfoy). Here, he's completely believable as a manly man] making the most of a situation he doesn't understand.

Unfortunately a good part of our society seems to want to be spoon fed - take a show like CSI - New York - the CSI's tend to state the obvious constantly to each other - if someone I worked with did that here they would not be very popular!
