What's even more sad is that they don't look younger. They look like someone who had surgery to look younger.

Catch-22.

I agree Thunder. They look very odd. Parts of their face don't move.

Judi Dench is my heroine for allowing close-ups of her wrinkles, even her wrinkled hands, when playing Queen Victoria.

Oops. I forgot about Judi Dench. She, too, hasn't had to worry about not getting parts because of her age. Thanks for reminding me, Servalan.

I think the natural beautiful age look is much better, it looks like real people, who has lived real lives. I've never understood that the image of beauty has become plastic face and duck lips... Who came up with that idea? :scratch

Just saw (the entire) The Old Man and the Gun starring the 82-year-old Robert Redford. (I've been a fan of his a long time, so my comments are not meant to offend.) His wrinkles go deep. It's probably a result of living in snow-covered-in-winter Utah, so the weather is rough on the skin. He has worked nonstop, and no one comments on his ageing, like they do about women's appearance. It's purely sexism and H'wood, as we know, is guilty of it.

I agree Helen. Robert Redford, Sean Connery and many other good male actors are repeatedly given roles that pair them with an absurdly young female actress. But very few women are given the same opportunity. And very few older great female actresses are given the opportunity to even portray good female leads. A handful like Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren are thankfully still given opportunities. But others are deemed too old...... sad

. . . male actors are repeatedly given roles that pair them with an absurdly young female actress.

Marie, in The Old Man, Cissy Spacek plays the love interest. She's a long way in years from her Carrie role, but Redford's paired here with someone closer to his age than most pairings as you pointed out. BTW, I highly recommend this movie. It's entertaining and humorous, and Redford has his usual sparkle in the eye.

Now. Let's get back on topic: Jason/conventions  .
